Flushing Toilets Energizing Portland
People have been thinking of amazing and unique ways to produce energy. And one of those many ways to generate such a precious resource is flushing the toilet.
The residents of Portland can now produce green energy through a unique yet state-of-the-art pipeline system. Oregon City is proud of this new system that works by capturing naturally embedded energy in flowing water.
The system consists of small turbines installed in large-diameter pipelines. These turbines begin to spin and work wonders when water taps are turned on and toilets are flushed. A generator receives the captured energy. The electric power is then sent off into the electric grid.
Gregg Sempler, Lucid Energy’s chief executive officer, stated that it is quite rare to find a method to generate or produce energy that will not harm the environment. That is why discovering this concept and developing it is something that he and the company are proud of.
The new system is not only unique but absolutely eco-friendly. Sempler emphasized that the turbines are installed inside the pipes so it is impossible for fish or any water-dwelling species to be harmed in any way. The company also assured that the system does not cause any interruptions in water flow or other environmental operations.
Huge utilities and other facilities tend to use enormous amounts of electric power. Sempler suggested that to help reduce their electric bills, they can use the Lucid Energy pipeline system. The Lucid Energy CEO also said that they can either utilize the energy for their utilities’ own purposes or sell it as a source of income or revenue.
Sempler also pointed out that they have a project located in Riverside, California wherein the system is used to provide electric power to the city’s streetlights at night. He further stated that in times when electricity prices increase, the pipeline system is again used to reduce energy costs.
One of Oregon’s main water pipelines is utilizing Lucid Energy’s system in order to generate green energy. The electricity produced may not be enough to power the entire city, but it is enough to provide energy for an individual facility or building, like a library.
With this green technology, people can now generate their own energy with lesser costs. And the system is easily activated by simply flushing the toilet.
