Solar Roads: Powering up the Roads for a Promising Future?

Scientists have spent a good part of their performance in the field trying to improve solar power to be used in practical instances in human living. Today, solar panels have not only been used for building up cost and energy-efficient roofing but also solar roads for residential and commercial purposes. Today, this technology has been picking up steam fast and it has paved the way to more fascinating cooperation and innovation of people.

The Concept of Solar-Powered Roads

The very idea of this innovation is to replace the current and commonly used petroleum-based asphalt roads, driveways, parking lots and such with the use of recycled materials incorporated with photovoltaic cells that naturally generate renewable energy.

This evolution could introduce more uses as solar panels generate their own electricity gathered from the sun enabling them to automatically heat up during winter avoiding the accumulation of ice and snow on the surface of the road.

Building Blocks of the Technology

The structure and building blocks of this road are composed of distinct layers with three categories, the Road Surface Layer, Electronic Layer and the Base Plate Layer.

The Road Surface is known as the semi-transparent layer that has a strong and durable material. It is durable enough to provide a good grip for cars and people passing through it. It is structure in a way that it could bear even the heaviest and worst kinds of conditions equipped with weatherproof mechanism that acts as protection for the second layer, which is the electronic line.

The Electronic Layer is composed, on the other hand, with hefty arrangement of cells with astrophysical specification that can collect energy from the sun. Solar roads are constructed with LED with a number of ultra capacitors that can store up more energy.

The Base Plate, lastly, is the layer that is responsible for distributing the power that it being collected in the previous layer. The energy that is being collected in this layer would then be transmitted to infrastructures, whether residential or commercial, connected to the solar roadway.

The Power of Solar Roads

Basically, 15% is the amounted total of solar-powered roads efficiency. They can produce up to an approximate 7.6 kilo watt per hour in a whole day. This can efficiently supply energy to homes and buildings and then take them completely off the grid.

Furthermore, setting up this kind of technology would typically supply power not only to nearby homes but also surrounding street lights. Studies also say that it can significantly reduce the CO2 levels in the atmosphere by offering clean reusable energy through its utilization.

As the advent of this technology becomes a high priority of most organizations and even supported by the government, soon, there would more efficient and effective means for people and companies to preserve and save energy not to mention having the venue to keep more savings from the minimized payment of bills and whatnot. With this, we may say that solar roads is a potentially and promising path for building up roads in the future.
